Area 1 Youth Update

Happy New Year! We hope your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations were blessed! We have got several exciting events planned for this year and wanted to get you updated on them. If you have any questions, please e-mail Vince Godfrey, Area 1 Youth Coordinator, at area_one_youth@yahoo.com.
Area 1 One-Day Event – Saturday, January 14th – 11am-4pm at Blackhawk Baptist Camp in Oregon, IL
We are hoping for snow, but we’ll have fun no matter the weather! We have planned a great day of indoor games (video, board, and cards); a movie; pizza, snacks, and refreshments; and even an outdoor game (snow or no-snow)! The cost is $10 per person and $20 per family (of siblings), but FREE for adult leaders*. Only those who are dressed appropriately for an outdoor game will be allowed to play. You can also bring your slippers to wear indoors throughout the day. Please e-mail us with an approximate number of youth and adults by Wednesday, January 11th, so we can plan for the food and arrangements.
NOTE: If the weather gets too bad, we may have to cancel this event at the last minute. Either way, the weather and event update will be on the camp’s voice mail the day before the event for your info and convenience: (815) 496-0732.
Area 1 Winter Retreat - Friday – Sunday, February 10th – 12th at First Baptist Church of Moline
Our guest speaker, Paul Ethington, and our worship band, led by David Rogers, will set the stage for a great weekend of growing deeper with God through messages, worship, small groups, fun activities, great food, and hangin’ out for 6th-12th grades! Doors open Friday at 7:30pm and the Retreat concludes at 11:30 on Sunday morning. The tentative cost is $50 per student to cover cost of the event and, again, is FREE for adult leaders*.
We will be staying at FBC Moline, so please bring your sleeping supplies (sleeping bag/blanket, pillow, sleepwear) and toiletries (towel, cleaning supplies, etc.)! We will finalize details and may be able to lower the cost per student! We are asking each church to bring snacks to pass to help lower the costs! Please e-mail us with names, sex, and grade of students coming and the names and sex of adult leaders* by Sunday, February 5th. If you get your info in by January 29th, we’ll knock off $5 per student registered!
Area 1 Youth Board Nominations – We will be voting on Area 1 Youth Board at the Winter Retreat. If you would like a Nomination form for you (if you’re a student) or for a student you know, please e-mail Vince (address at top of page) to get the info and forms. The forms need to be completed, signed, and sent by January 29th. The Youth Board members commit to a 2-year term (unless they’re a senior) of leading Area 1 Youth events and attending and participating in planning meeting throughout the year.
* Youth Leaders at Area 1 Youth Events must be 19 years of age, a year after graduating high school, and recognized by the church they are representing as an adult leader.
“Immerse” - the National Youth Gathering
- Conference Dates: Tuesday, July 24th – Saturday, July 28th

Every 4 years we have a National Youth Conference for students (ages 14-19, at least entering their freshman year at the time of the conference). This year it will be in Washington D.C. filled with incredible speakers, worship, fellowship, service opportunities, and incredible memories for a lifetime! We are still finalizing details and are anticipating a great deal of financial aid from our Area 1 Program Board and churches and Great Rivers Region which will decrease the cost per person immensely to $269 for the conference and travel costs and $40 for travel meals (cash when we go).
The deadline to register with Area 1 and guarantee your seat on the bus is February 25th by providing (1) the name of each student and adult; (2) their age/grade; (3) their sex; (4) their home address, phone, and e-mail; (5) $100 deposit – checks made payable to “Area 1 Youth”; and (6) sending all that to Colleen Miller – 190 W. 4th Street – Coal City, IL 60416.
